Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 7, 2026
SoberRise ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the SoberRise mobile app and website, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and optional display name.
Sobriety and recovery data. We store data you enter to support your recovery, including:
- Sobriety start date and personal "why"
- Daily check-ins (mood ratings and optional notes)
- Daily pledge logs
- Journal entries (text, mood, optional photos and voice recordings)
- Craving logs, triggers, and SOS session data
- Milestone achievements and streak information
- Relapse prevention plans, high-risk locations, and high-risk times (if you enable these features)
- Craving prediction and pattern data generated from your activity
This data is stored securely in our database (Supabase) and is private to you unless you explicitly choose to share content in the community or circles.
Community and social data. If you use community features, we store posts, comments, reactions, and anonymous profile identifiers. Community posts are anonymous by default — your real name is not shown unless you choose otherwise in your profile settings. If you report content, we store report details (reason, target content type, and timestamps) to investigate and enforce our Terms.
Buddy and Circles data. If you use accountability buddy matching, invite links, or private Circles, we store messages, membership status, and group activity within those features. This content is visible only to participants in the relevant conversation or circle.
Photos and voice recordings. If you attach photos to journal entries or community posts, or record voice journal notes, those files are stored in Supabase Storage. Voice recordings may be sent to our servers for transcription. Audio and photos in private journal entries are not shared with other users unless you choose to share them.
Location data. If you grant permission and use My Safety Plan location alerts, we use your device location to detect when you are near a high-risk place you saved. Location is used on-device and through our services only to provide prevention alerts you configured. We do not sell location data.
AI interactions. When you use AI features (SOS craving coach, daily messages, Chat with Rise, voice transcription, or sentiment analysis), relevant context such as your streak length, recent mood, triggers, and conversation content may be sent to OpenAI through our secure server-side proxy. We do not send your email address to OpenAI.
Purchase information. Subscriptions are processed by Apple (App Store) and managed through RevenueCat. We receive an anonymised customer identifier and entitlement status (whether you have Pro access). We never see or store your payment card details.
Push notification tokens. If you grant permission, we store a device push token to send reminders, pledge prompts, motivational messages, community notifications, and prevention alerts you opt into. You can disable notifications in the app at any time.
Usage analytics. We use PostHog to collect anonymised usage data (such as feature usage and session activity) to improve the app. We do not use analytics for advertising.
2. How we use your information
- To provide, personalise, and improve the SoberRise app
- To generate AI-powered coaching, daily messages, transcriptions, and craving predictions
- To enable community, buddy, and Circles features you choose to use
- To send notifications you have opted into
- To process and manage your subscription status
- To maintain security, prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms of Use
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your personal data with third parties for advertising purposes.
3. AI and OpenAI
SoberRise uses OpenAI models to power certain features, including the AI craving coach, daily messages, Chat with Rise, voice transcription, and related analysis. Relevant context is sent to OpenAI's API through our secure backend — never directly from your device with API credentials. OpenAI's use of API data is governed by OpenAI's API Usage Policy. OpenAI does not use API data to train its models by default.
4. Third-party services
We use trusted service providers to operate SoberRise, including:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and file storage
- RevenueCat — subscription and entitlement management
- Apple App Store — payment processing for iOS subscriptions
- OpenAI — AI coaching, messaging, and transcription
- PostHog — anonymised product analytics
- Expo — push notification delivery
These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms.
5. Data storage and security
Your data is stored in Supabase (hosted on AWS). Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. We use Row-Level Security (RLS) so users can only access their own private data unless they participate in shared social features governed by separate access rules.
6. Data retention and deletion
We retain your data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the app: Profile → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and associated personal data from our systems, subject to brief backup retention by our infrastructure providers.
If you cannot use the app, you may request deletion by emailing hello@96creativelabs.com from the address linked to your account. We will process those requests within 30 days, subject to legal or operational requirements.
7. Children
SoberRise is intended for users aged 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 17. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact hello@96creativelabs.com.
9. International users
SoberRise is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the US, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email. Your continued use of SoberRise after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
